The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has recently hired 24 theologians (someone who studies religion) to see how the various religious groups across the world would react if or when humanity makes its first contact with humans.
These theologists will be working with the Centre for Theological Inquiry (CTI) in New Jersey, USA, and will try to scale the type and magnitude of psychological and emotional impact that people of various religions would experience if or when extraterrestrial life is found.
For this project, NASA has decided on a budget of $1.1 million. The money has already been provided to the CTI.
One of the theologists hired by NASA is Dr. Andrew Davison, who is a British priest and has a Biochemistry degree from Oxford. He is currently a research scholar at Cambridge University.
Dr. Davison is going to publish a book in 2022 in which he talks about God creating life in different parts of the universe just like Earth. He says that we currently don't know whether we would discover alien life in the future or not. But if we do, then we need to be prepared for the way in which humanity would act. According to him, whenever alien life is discovered, people will look up to their religion for guidance.
The existence of extraterrestrial life is something that has not been proved yet. Mankind has had some clues and theories regarding potential planets or other celestial objects which have the potential to harbor life and may even have primitive or even advanced life. But nothing has been proven for sure yet.
But the fact that NASA is spending a significant amount of capital on discovering alien life and making contact with the unknown known as extraterrestrial, gives us hope that maybe somewhere out there, there are living beings just like us, either waiting to be discovered or waiting to discover us!
