Neocov Virus: What is it? Is it a danger?

After the Chinese government flagged over the concern about the Neocov virus, there are a lot of panics circulating among the people. It shows a 33% mortality rate among humans.

What is the Neocov virus?

The Neocov virus is not new. Along with Mers( different genera of coronavirus), it is known as merbecovirus.

The Chinese scientist pointed out Neocov in South Africa is found in the bat community. And it only spreads among the animals yet. No case of this virus circulating in humans has been discovered yet but it could enter human cells.

In the study of Chinese scientists, they found that the receptor used by Neocov in the bat is similar to the receptor in humans used by SARS-CoV2. But scientists pinpointed that Neocov can't be cross-neutralized by the antibodies targeting SARS-CoV-2.

The potential to kill 1 in 3 has been drawn from the evidence that it is close relative to MERS. The merbecovirus has a high fatality rate of about 35%.

According to the tweet by Dr. Shashank Joshi, a member of the Maharashtra State covid-19 task force and chair of the International Diabetes Federation this virus is demystified.

  1. Neocov virus is old and enters the cell by DPP4 receptors.

  2. Neocov uses the ACE2 receptor of bats but can't use the ACE2 of humans, though they need only one mutation to enter the human cells. It means they have latent potential to enter and infect human cells

So there is no need to worry much about Neocov, we have much more pathogens in the world to deal with.
