Windows 10 is a great operating system. But even great operating systems like Windows require maintenance after their installation so that they can be ready to use. So today let us take a look at 5 essential things that you should do after installing Windows, to get the maximum performance out of your PC.
Check for Updates
Always remember to check your PC for updates and install the updates, if available. Updates contain critical security patches and other types of bug fixes, which can both improve the performance of your system as well as protect you from any vulnerabilities. To check for updates, go to Settings ----> Updates and Security ----> Windows Updates and click on 'Check for Updates'.
Install necessary and recommended drivers
Drivers are like a bridge between your operating system and your hardware. Without proper drivers, your system might not be able to recognize the hardware for which the drivers are missing or outdated. Most of the drivers can be found in the 'Optional Updates' section of 'Windows Update'. For a specific driver, you can go to the website of the manufacturer of the hardware whose driver you are searching for. IF you have a pre-built PC or a laptop, you can also go to your laptop manufacturer's website, enter your computer's serial number, and download the drivers from there.
Turn on Cleartype Text
Sometimes in Windows 10, you might have noticed that the text on the screen seemed to be very thin or blurry. Well, most of the time the culprit might be 'Cleartype Text'. Cleartype text is a feature in Windows that makes the text on your screen more crisp, easy to look at, and thicker. To turn on ClearType text, go to the start menu and type 'Cleartype' in the search bar. Then click on the 'Adjust Cleartype Text' option, and customize the sample text there as per your needs.
Create a High-performance energy profile
By default, the power plan in Windows 10 is set to Balanced. It means that Windows will decide whether you need to save power or use more power. You can customize it to make it more inclined towards increased power saving or performance. Or you can create your very own power plan, and set it to 'High Performance' mode. To do this, type 'Create a power plan in the search bar, and select the 'Create a Power Plan' option. Then choose the 'High Performance' option from the drop-down list, choose your sleep and screen timeout settings, and select 'Finish'.
Update your apps
Always remember to keep all your stock apps updated to their latest version so you can make use of them to the full extent. To do so, go to the Microsoft Store. Click on the three dots on the upper right corner of the screen and select 'Downloads and updates' from there. Then click on 'Check for updates' and leave the rest to Microsoft Store. Make sure that you have a stable internet connection.
