Valve's handheld gaming PC developed with the cooperation with AMD is now compatible with 80 games in Steam's top 100. Steam Deck is very similar to Nintendo Switch as it can be either played on the go or connected to a TV as well.
Steam Deck works on the Linux SteamOS v3.0. It includes support for Proton, a compatibility layer that allows games developed for MS Windows to be played on SteamOS.
The APU in the console is designed by AMD based on Zen and RDNA 2 architecture. The CPU, on the other hand, will run on a four-core/eight-thread unit with frequencies ranging between 2.4-3.5 GHz. The GPU has eight compute units with an estimated performance of 1.6 TFLOPS (frequencies between 1.0-1.6 GHz).
Steam Deck would come in three models based on internal storage. The cheapest one would have 64 GB eMMC internal storage running on PCO Express 2.1 x1. The mid-range model will come with 256 GB of internal storage via an NVMe SSD. The flagship model would have a 512 GB NVMe SSD. The mid-range and the high-end models would have drivers that run PCI Express 3.0 x4.
There is an option of additional storage through a microSD card slot. The slot also supports microSDXC and microSDHC formats.
Steam Deck is available to reserve in select regions as of now. The shipping for these regions would begin in February 2022. Even though there are chip shortages and other problems, Valve is confident that it will make its launch window. We can only wait as and when Steam Deck is launched.
