You probably heard the 1D song “Stockholm Syndrome” it is one of the best songs by them, but do you know what it is? As you look at the word, you see the word syndrome. So, there are lots of science behind it, which you should probably want to know. Let’s see about it in detail


What is Stockholm Syndrome?

A condition when hostages develop bonding with their captors. This have two impacts i.e. positive bonding towards captors and negative feeling towards the authority and police. Some study suggests that this syndrome can be a method for overcoming with the stress and problems that arises during the captivity. The first case of this syndrome arises in Stockholm, Sweden. That’s why it is named Stockholm syndrome. The reason behind this is still very unclear why it happens, also there are the chances that it can be due to the very good human nature shown by the captors to their hostages which makes some of them to like as it not happen with the everyone, only with some of them.


There are some key components and consequences:

  • The hostages develop a psychological and positive bond with their captors.

  • They generally refuse to corporate with the police and other authority.

  • They believe that whatever captors have done for their purpose and they think they might be not wrong.


The person with this syndrome may develop, social anxiety, confusion, lack of fear & fear etc.

Anyone with this syndrome have can be cured by a psychiatrist or any other method as this is a psychological issue. If not treated then sometimes it leads to depression.
