Intel's Ohio Chip Plant May Become World's Largest

The world's largest semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel Corp's new plant in Ohio may become the company's and the world's largest. Intel took the step to produce more of its chips at home after the world went on to face a global chip shortage.

Intel has recently started a new plant in Ohio!

The foremost reason behind the chip shortage has been the lockdowns to curb COVID-19 cases. The other reason has been an increase in the demand for computers and other digital devices as the world adapted to work from home.

Intel would invest a whopping amount of $100 billion, starting with a $20 billion investment to kick-start the development. The new factory would be built in New Albany on a one thousand acre site. It is estimated to create 3,000 jobs.

Intel's CEO Pat Gelsinger gave all this information. He also said that the chip shortages would affect the world at least until 2023. This is one of the steps to decrease the dependency on Asian markets to supply chips to the west.

To further support Intel's move and to encourage other makers to invest domestically, the US government is planning to get Congress's approval for a $52 billion chip subsidy funding.

Apart from Intel, Samsung and TMSC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing) are making big plans to invest in the US.

These major developments have laid the foundation for a tech war between China and the US. There have already been many legal actions and closed-door fights among the companies of both nations. The biggest might be Huawei's exit from most of the world and Google's backing down from providing Android on its smartphones in 2019.
