India's First Water Taxi

The newly developed Water Taxi Services has been inaugurated (virtually) at Mumbai, promising faster connectivity to Navi Mumbai and nearby areas.

A Water Taxi will be like a small motorboat transporting paying people across waterbodies. A Water Taxi should not be confused with a ferry boat.

The Water Taxi service will be very useful in bringing Elephanta closer to tourists. It will also help in the connection between the metropolitan region. It is helpful for the people moving to Mumbai for work or businesses. In the forthcoming years, the government will also be working on desalinating seawater, making it capable of drinking. Apart from water taxis, other jetties also are proposed by the Harbour division.

The services will begin from the DCT terminal. It will also become the hub for connecting the two cities for the first time.

The Water Taxi service will reduce the travel time from 1.5 hours to 45 minutes. It will thus boost the tourism sector of Mumbai by faster connectivity to Kanhoji Angre, Elephanta Caves, etc.

The Water Taxi will allow luggage weight of 10 kg per person (and 1,000 Rs/kg for more weight).

The prices for passengers will be 800 to 1200 rupees for a One-Way speedboat trip and 290 rupees for a One-Way catamaran trip. There will be a special monthly speedboat pass for 12100 rupees.

There are eight boats/taxis in total. The speedboats can carry 10 to 30 people, and the catamaran can carry up to 65 people.

This service will run 330 days a year and have a working time slot from 8 AM to 8 PM.
