Emirates departing from traditional Friday-Saturday weekends citing mental health reasons.

UAE, on 7th Dec 2021, announced the four and half a day working week, starting in 2022, sounds cool, right?

The UAE is the first country in the world to introduce a national workweek shorter than the global five-day week.

After this announcement, it became the first employees-friendly transition to improve economic productivity and work-life balance.

Mental health was the biggest challenge for the world after the Covid-19 hit, this step will reduce mental illness of the workers and the employees

Here's how flexible working hours and work-from-home options can be a boon for the mental health of working professionals:

1) More time with the family

Spending time with family—especially face-to-face, as opposed to digital—significantly reduces the occurrence of depression, anxiety, and other mental illness. Being physically present with loved ones creates strong emotional support to buoy you up through life's challenges

2) Reduce Stress level

Most of us go through the day using a “push, push, push” approach, thinking if we work the full eight to 10 hours, we’ll get more done. Instead, productivity goes down, stress levels go up and you have very little energy left over. Now with ample time, this stress level will decrease resulting in better mental health and productivity.

3) Increase efficiency

Given a specific timeline, one can be assumed to be more focused on their work ensuring completing the task more efficiently without any stress.

4) Greenlight to innovation/creativity

People are most creative when they are in a positive mood and that mental illnesses such as depression or schizophrenia decrease. With flexible hours and a non-monotonous schedule, they will be able to think of more innovative ideas to improve their works.

This decision will not only boost up their trading opportunities but also ensure the healthy flexible and enjoyable life of their citizens.
