The Sun is also a star

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY CAN MAKE!!!

~A tale about young love, science and deep conversation

Rating - 5/5

The sun is also a Star. Nicola yoon. New york times bestselling of everything everything. Book review.

The sun is also a star is Nicole Yoon's contemporary young adult romance fiction. The story follows the life of two teenagers Natasha and Daniel who live in New York City. Natasha is a Jamaican immigrant who has been in the US since she was 8.

America is the only place she feels home however her family is being deported back to Jamaica and she is doing everything in her power to keep it from happening whereas the other perspective is of Daniel a Korean American boy who is trying to maintain a balance between his own dreams and his parents's expectations. His parents want him to become a doctor and he has an interview with Yale University.

But he has a very different dream of his own. He is a writer and loves to write poetry with a dilemma to choose between his passion and his family's hope he is not sure what to do. Natasha is a realist who doesn’t believe in fate and religion but science and facts. On the contrary, Daniel is the complete opposite who believes in destiny, love and is a dreamer. The whole story is written in a span of one day. It is the day Natasha's family is being deported as well as the same day Daniel is having his medical school interview. The two of them happen to run into each other and Daniel feels "koi no yokan'' and promises Natasha that the end of the day he will make her believe in love, faith, and destinies.

A beautifully written book that gives you hope and make you believe in the part universe plays to make us meet with different people who completely change our life. When I started reading this book, I thought it to be another cliche romance book but Nicole proves it wrong with every turn of the page. The way she portrays her characters is so much incredible that you won't be able to put it down.

The book is written from Daniel's and Natasha's point of view but here and there we also read about some minor characters whose interruption first seems completely irrelevant to the story but when you get to know about their backstory suddenly it all starts making sense and adds much to the plot. Being set up on single-day events you'd expect the story to be too rushed but the author proves it wrong again. The chemistry between Natasha and Daniel is so organically developed that you can't help but smile.

The backstory of every character makes you relate so much to them. Whether it is the academic pressure on Daniel or the struggles of Natasha, it all seems so familiar that by the end of the book it feels like you know them for a lifetime, as if they are your friends. Believe me when I say that you are going to laugh as well as cry with them.

The book also tackles some important problems of society like illegal immigrants, racism, class, and depression. A must-read if you want lighthearted escapism from your daily hectic routine.
