Inspired by the brave and fortitude life of a North Korean defector girl, The girl with seven names is written by David John and Lee Hyeon seo.
The story revolves around the life of co-author Lee Hyeon seo and her struggles to gain freedom for not only herself but also to lead her family to the same. As a child growing up inside the country of the most terrifying and secretive dictatorship Lee Hyeon seo was made to believe from an early age that her ruler is equivalent to God and that all the poverty, repressions, and hardships the nation is facing are because of the western countries, making them believe that outside world is dangerous and threatening.
Her home was situated on the border of North Korea and China and because of that she started getting insights into the outside world and how everything she has been told doesn't seem true anymore and when the famine of the 1990s stuck seeing the miserable sight of her Countrymen dying Lee Hyeon seo finally understood that how much brainwashed everyone is and began her journey to get free from the chains of the brutal regime.
At the young age of seventeen, she ran away to China but her journey of struggles doesn't end here as she has to survive alone in a new place and also have to avoid recapture or else she will be sent back to North Korea where her whole family will face severe punishment or worse public execution, she also left her family behind which she has to spirit away from North Korea.
The story is a light in the darkness of the world a pure depiction that anything is possible if you have got enough nerve. It encourages you to face the problems life throws at you and fight for your independence. This book is a remarkable portrait of the unbreakable and dauntless spirit of Hyeon seo lee.
