India, full of different cultures, also has different festivals. Holi is one of them.
It is celebrated all over India with different colours and water.
Mythological thoughts
We must have listened to many mythological reasons behind the Holi. The one and the most famous story is of a demon king, Hirankashyap and his son, the devotee Prahlad. None of us is unaware of this story.
We too celebrate Holika Dahan and must have listened to its story too, how Prahald's aunt Holika tried to kill him.
But do we know about the scientific reason behind this festival?
Let's see.
Scientific reasons behind Holi
Apart from mythological reasons, this festival has great scientific reasons too. The hold is itself a festival.
1. Changing seasons
Holi is celebrated during the spring season which comes after winter and before summer.
The temperature at this time is moderate, which is also a favourite temperature for bacteria to grow.
So to avoid any type of bacterial disease we celebrate Holika Dahan. The flames of Holika Dahan reduce the growth of unwanted bacteria and prevent any bacterial infections.
2. Laziness of people
During this season, people prefer to be on their bed all the time. They feel lazy, inactive, tired and many more.
Holi gives them a reason to counter their laziness and spend their time with family and friends which breaks the chain of boredom.
3. Colours
Colours have a prominent role in this festival. In ancient times, people used natural colours to play Holi. They used turmeric, dried leaves, and flowers to celebrate. These organic colours clear the skin and make them dirt free. This promotes good skin and removes all the deposition on the skin surface.
But today we use artificial colours which are a chemical product and enhance the many rashes and other problems on the skin. We should avoid this
It is nothing like this that mythological stories have not any impact on us. The victory over evil gives us the hope to conquer all the difficulties in life. The devotion of Bhakt Prahlad teaches us to be devotees to the work we are engaged in.
