Microsoft releases Windows 11

Microsoft has released its long-awaited OS Windows 11 yesterday. The OS comes with a major visual overhaul and some core changes too. So what makes it different from its predecessor Windows 10? Let us find out!

  1. The first and most polarizing change according to me is the default center alignment of the start menu and the taskbar icons. While many people would appreciate the change, there are a lot of people who are accustomed to the left-aligned start menu for decades. But Microsoft has given you the option to change the taskbar alignment to the left by going into Taskbar Settings.

  2. Most of the icons are changed too. There are fresh icons for many Windows applications, which is something to be appreciated as they look much better than the previous ones.

  3. Microsoft Teams is now integrated into the taskbar. Again, a polarizing decision. Some might like it, others might hate it.

  4. A huge revamp of the Microsoft Store. Yes, the store is pretty much changed now. It is not only visually changed but also changed in its practices. It is now much more developer-friendly. We are now beginning to see many popular apps like OBS Studio, Disney+, Canva, etc. which is a very appreciable move.

  5. The animations are now a lot more subtle and detailed. A huge emphasis has been given to minute small animations to increase the user experience.

  6. Gaming is given special attention as Microsoft has announced that DirectStorage, a feature of Xbox, is expected to improve Gaming performance and reduce loading times. This feature will also be coming to Windows 10.

  7. A new boot animation is currently present in the Dev build, but not on the release build. Lock Screen has also been given a new look, which is liked by most people.

How to check whether your PC is compatible with Windows 11 or not?

You can check whether your PC supports upgrading to Windows 11 or not by downloading Microsoft's PC Health Check tool! All the links are given below at the end of the blog.

Should you upgrade to Windows 11?

Now that we have discussed what Windows 11 brings to the table, it might be time to consider whether you should be upgrading your Windows 10 PC or not. If your PC does not meet the minimum system requirements, then please do not upgrade because it is not worth it. A fully supported Windows 10 will work much better on your PC than an unsupported Windows 11.

But if your PC does support it, even then my advice would be to wait for a few updates till it becomes more stable and ready to use. I am writing this blog on the officially released version of Windows 11. My PC not only meets the minimum system requirements but exceeds them by a fair margin. Still, I am experiencing very bad animation stutters and frequent application and explorer crashes. The taskbar disappears sometimes and there is a substantial lag in the animations. Many more people are experiencing such issues with the final build too. So my advice would be to wait till a more stable build comes out and then upgrade your main PC to Windows 11.
