Jupiter's "Pepperoni Storm" Images shared by NASA on National Pizza Day!

NASA recently shared a video on Instagram that shows various red and yellow colors which represent the formation of storms.

According to NASA, the uploaded clip is an infrared video of the north pole of Jupiter, the largest gas planet present in our solar system.

NASA has shared the video on the occasion of National Pizza day and calls these storms the "Pepperoni Storms" because the storm patterns look like pepperoni.

NASA also mentioned in the caption that the movie utilized imagery derived from the Jovian Infrared Auroral Mapper (JIRAM), which is aboard NASA's solar system mission Juno.

NASA also explained the "pepperoni storms" in the caption. The US Space Agency said that the yellow areas are the ones that are at higher temperatures, and deeper into Jupiter's atmosphere.

Similarly, the red areas are relatively colder and are located higher up in Jupiter's atmosphere as compared to the yellow areas.

NASA further stated that the brightest spot has a temperature of about 260K and the spot with the lowest brightness has a temperature around 190K.

The images from which the clip shared by NASA was made were obtained during Juno’s fourth pass over Jupiter on Feb. 2, 2017.
