HOW DOES CARBON BECOME ESSENTIAL FOR THE EXISTENCE OF LIFE?

Carbon molecules
carbon

Carbon is a very important segment of our life. It is present everywhere, whether it is paper, the dyes of clothes, food, or cold drinks.

Carbon gives life. The skin, hair, blood, bone, muscle all depends on carbon. Every cell in our body relies on the backbone of carbon.

Carbon is the main element in organic compounds, without carbon we could not exist. Carbon is an element that has unique properties(ability to form bonds) which make it essential to life on earth.

Organic molecules which contain carbon can be used for

.Energy- by breaking carbon molecules to release energy.

.Production-carbon molecules are restructured to form useful bio molecules for the organism to thrive and grow.

Carbon in the atmosphere is usually in form of carbon dioxide and methane.

Carbon is rapidly exchanged between ocean and atmosphere to maintain the equilibrium.

Carbon is provided in soil to form molecules produced by photosynthetic organism such as plants.

Since the late 19th century humans extracted carbon to burn for energy. The release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere cause an increase in carbon fluxes from atmosphere to photosynthetic organism and the oceans.

Living things need carbon the most in order to live, grow and reproduce.
